My love for beautiful wood and fine crafted
furniture is what originally sparked my interest
in woodworking. My true passion still remains
designing and constructing interesting one of
a kind pieces, for clients with the same passion.
Japanese joinery techniques, carved elements, and
art nouveau inspired curves, are a few of the details that
make a Jolly Woodchopper piece unique. I can't say I have a favorite species of wood, but am frequently drawn
to walnut, cherry, mahogany, and quartered oak. I usually spend way too much time sorting through a pile
of hardwood, to find that perfect grain for your piece.
Lately I've been influenced by the clean modern
designs of the 50's and 60's, and streamlined Japanese styles. I'm constantly getting new ideas from architecture. If there is one major influence on my work, it would have to be the architecture of Europe and Asia. Architects such as Victor Horta, Hector Guimard, Antoni Gaudi, and Ghery, inspire me more then anything.
